She soon discovers, however, that relationships within the troupe and its entourage are far from harmonious. Jealousy is rife, and there are secrets aplenty even Mary Ann has one of her own.
Relief, however, gradually turns to fear as she realises that she may be a pawn in a more dangerous game than she imagined.

Set in the 1870s in Australia, this book is a ripping yarn about rivalry, striving and love in a touring circus. It's a really, really good read. Lots of awesome Aussie settings, excellent character development, a sound plot, dastardly doings, quirky happenings, and a satisfying ending. Wonderful portrayal of the simplicity of the little folk.
