This question from Lauren Nelson's 7-year-old daughter led her to write SHEroes of the Bible. She wants young and old to know that God empowered many women in the Bible to do amazing things and He continues to do so today! She especially wants girls to know their importance as daughters of God and that He has a great plan for their lives, just as He does for boys.
SHEroes of the Bible takes you on a journey with nine stories of fourteen women from the Old Testament who experienced God in their lives in a significant way. It wasn't easy, but they chose to say yes to God and to trust Him to rescue and comfort them.
God still does amazing things today, and He wants to do them through you! Are you ready to be a SHEro?

Nice small book focusing on some important stories of women in the bible and the significance of them in the bible. The stories were well written, but more for early elementary in mind. I like how they gave more background into the women and their roles in society, just wish it could have been a little more "meatier". I was hoping to use it with all my elementary kids, but found it more appropriate for PreK-3rd grade. There is very little out there for older elementary on these women (other than reading what is sometimes only 4 verses in the bible) so I was hoping this would help, but alas it was lacking. But I still like that it focuses on women and how they are heros in the bible too. I especially liked the explanation in the books about SHEroes. I used that with all ages!Product details

This is an amazing book! I loved the stories and my daughter loves the idea of being a SHEro! The author did a great job bringing to light the SHEroes in the Bible that we often times overlook. She helped us see how powerful their actions were in bringing about Gods plans for his people.
What a beautiful book! In content, illustrations, and the thought behind it, this book is apparently aimed at young girls. But, even as an adult, I found it captivating, and I can picture the boys in the family being drawn in by it as well. It is a refreshing new take on seeing beyond gender stereotypes, as we are reminded of (or introduced to for the first time) so called "minor" characters who ended up playing major roles in the fulfillment of God's purpose, both in the Old and New Testament. Highly recommended.
We love SHEroes of the Bible! My 3 1/2 year old daughter is so excited to hear the stories of these amazing women of the Old Testament. We read several every night at bedtime! Esther is her current fave. The book is beautifully written with thorough, but straightforward stories for young readers. I love studying the women of the Bible, because it helps me see my own worth, strength, and identity in Christ. I am so thrilled to now have a book for my littles to see the love, power, and provision God gives his precious girls!
I bought seven SHEroes, one for each of my Scouts. It was exciting to find a book that aligned with the Girl Scout program called "My Promise, My Faith" (earned for exploring how the tenants of ones faith in God connect to the tenants of Girl Scouting). SHEroes also matches up well with the scouts' current Journey book. Girl Scouts develop their confidence, courage & character by putting into practice attitudes & skills based upon the Girl Scout Promise and Laws. Scouts pledge "to serve God & their country" and "to obey the Girl Scout Laws" (honest, fair, friendly, helpful, considerate, caring courageous, strong, responsible for what I say and do, respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, and make the world a better place). SHEroes is an ideal way to add real life role models for girls incorporating their faith into all these SHEro qualities.
My Brownie & Junior scouts, ages 7-11, are working through a Journey called "Agent of Change." First the girls learned about "The Power of One!" (the power God plants inside each of us individually). SHEroes was the perfect compliment as it illustrated the compelling stories of fourteen inspirational girls & women who put their faith into action, resulting in impactful outcomes, which glorified God and even saved people from catastrophe. The SHEroes, with their heart for God, listened to God, obeyed God, trusted God and courageously applied their "Power of One" by using the strength God bestowed upon them. This is precisely what my scouts are learning to do by facing their fears, applying their faith in ways that make our world a better place, and allowing God to accomplish incredible things through their lives today and in their future.
It is my hope that many of our Youth Leaders, School Teachers, Parents/Grandparents/Aunties & Uncles, and more!... discover fresh, exciting ways to embed this wonderful book into their programs and curriculum's. I can easily visualize children discovering and applying their own inner HEro & SHEro to the challenges they are facing today; modeling themselves after the faith and obedience of these inspirational women of the Old Testament! Thank you, author Lauren L. Nelson, for following through on your young daughters' pure and innocent question, "Mom, why are boys more important than girls?" Way to be a SHEro for all of us who are striving to give a Biblical response to all the wonderful, brave, inquisitive children in our lives!
Fantastic vision! This author made an accessible, exciting, and content-rich storybook for GIRLS out of true Old Testament hero women. There are lots of resources for girls, but NOT straight from the Bible, highlighting real life women of God! This is so important, and needed. My eleven year old daughter (who's been hearing Bible stories all her life) was thrilled to discover women she'd never heard of! She thought this book was appropriate for her age group, especially if they are not very familiar with Bible stories. I agree! This storybook is so versatile because the illustrations and style make it a great choice for reading to a young girl, but the content is rich enough to engage older readers on their own, too. The author hit the mark, and girls will be engaged, whether they are new to the Bible or steeped in it. I only wish it were longer, so I am giving it four stars. I would love to see this book expanded with more stories, including New Testament women, picked up by a major publisher for wider distribution, and sold to a very wide audience at a lower price. Who wouldn't support this vision? I think the author is on the mark in concept and execution. This needs to be out there!
We love this book! I ordered SHEros of the Bible for my 5 and 7 year old and they love all the stories. This book is well written, the pictures are beautiful and the content is biblical. It brings me so much joy to hear my 7 year old reading these bible stories to my 5 year old and to hear them talking about how they want to be strong and not afraid like the mighty women in the bible. I highly recommend this book!
Sheroes of the Bible is a wonderful book. It not only shows us that women were (and are) just as important and used by God as were the men, but it shows that these women weren't thinking about the here and now, but were looking through the long lense and looking to the future and eternity in their desicions.
